Reminders
May was Mental Health Awareness month and here in June we want to encourage you to continue prioritizing your own wellness. Towards the end of this section there will be a list of mental health resources that we value at Center for Balanced Living.
Self-Care!
One of our current staff members, Angela, was willing to shed light on some of the self care skills and activities they like to use to wind down during a difficult time.
“It can be hard reminding myself to practice self care when I am feeling really low mentally. However, after I take care of myself, I feel refreshed and restored.”
“I like to take a walk outside and ground myself. Grounding yourself consists of connecting with your current environment and utilizing all of your senses to restore your mental balance.
I do this by sitting in the grass outside, placing my hands on the warm grass. At this time it is important to notice any certain smells around you, and sounds. What can you hear? Birds, and animals barking, a neighbor laughing? What can you smell? Fresh cut grass, dinner cooking through an open window, flowers?
The time it takes to identify aspects of the environment around me helps to bring me back into the current moment, lessening my anxiety and distressing thoughts.”
